An improved genetic algorithm based fractional open circuit voltage MPPT for solar PV systems

To extract the maximum power from solar PV, point tracking (MPPT) controllers are needed to operate PV arrays at their under varying environmental conditions. Fractional Open Circuit Voltage (FOCV) is a simple, cost-effective, and easy implement MPPT technique. However, it suffers discontinuous supply low efficiency. overcome these drawbacks, new hybrid technique based on Genetic Algorithm (GA) FOCV proposed. The proposed single decision variable, reducing complexity convergence time of algorithm. MATLAB/Simulink used test robustness uniform non-uniform irradiance performance compared Perturb & Observe, Incremental Conductance, other techniques. Furthermore, efficacy also assessed against commercial system’s output over one day. results demonstrate that GA-FOCV improves efficiency conventional method by almost 3%, exhibiting an average 99.96% speed around 0.07 s with minimal steady-state oscillations.
